About

Missy Toney is a Manhattan, Montauk, Eastern Shore and Bend, Oregon-based interior décor and style consultant known for her clean-inspired design aesthetic with a touch of high art and whimsy.

The daughter of an artist and doctor, Missy’s creative and organized approach to decorating is inherent. A Pittsburgh native, the city’s gilded age history and vibrant modern art scene informed her effortless melding of old and new. Her celebrated background as an environmental consultant and long-time event planner for the environmental NGO NRDC brings a mindful ethos and cultivated lens to her projects.

Missy translates her clients’ vision to execution with her keen eye and own sense of ease, joy and naturally artistic point of view. Working to eliminate excess and waste, grasshopper design aims to “revive” existing furniture and décor with a fresh lens that results in a balanced, updated and personal finish.

From Buenos Aires to Taos, Missy has called many places home. Her grandmother nicknamed her “grasshopper” at a young age befitting her continued love of travel and adventure. With a worldly and mindful approach, grasshopper design aims to create delightful, sophisticated and comfortable living spaces that reflect the clients who occupy them.We hope you will consider grasshopper design for your next project.

Montauk Surf Bungalow

Montauk embodies unfussy ease, and this beach bungalow is designed to have multiple areas for relaxation and informal gatherings. The clean lines and modern art create a space that is inviting and open.

Connecticut Lake House

My Salisbury, Connecticut client wanted a full house edit to eliminate clutter, highlight favored art and garner a clean, Adirondack feel without purchasing any new items. By rearranging some larger furniture pieces, moving art, area rugs and paring down every room, the house now has a fresh appeal with an unhindered focus on the gorgeous lake outside.

New York Pied à terre

The city apartment blends antiques and modern pieces to highlight the real star- the gorgeous pre-war moldings and details and the 10-foot ceilings! The space is outfitted efficiently with just enough for a long weekend escape and the finish is comfortable and elegant.

Eastern Shore Farm

The small historic home had lots of potential and with inherited large furniture and the help of some gently loved vintage items, I created a warm space that embodies the traditional charm of the Eastern Shore. As dog lovers there are hints of pups throughout.
